Phalaenopsis (Moth Orchids) are celebrated for their incredible longevity, often blooming for 2 to 3 months with minimal effort. Follow our expert florist guidelines to keep your orchid thriving for years to come.
Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. An east- or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Avoid direct afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves, as well as cold draughts or placement next to radiators.
Water once every 7 to 10 days. Look at the roots in the clear inner pot: green roots mean hydrated; silver-grey roots mean it’s time to water. Soak the inner pot for 10 minutes, then drain thoroughly. Never leave roots sitting in standing water.
Prefers standard indoor temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. They love ambient humidity—placing the pot near other house plants or misting aerial roots gently during warmer months keeps foliage lush.
Once blooms fade, cut the flower spike back to just above a visible "node" (joint) to trigger a secondary branch. A slight drop in night temperature (around 15°C–16°C in autumn) naturally encourages new flower spikes to form.
Florist Pro-Tip: Keep your orchid away from fresh fruit bowls! Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas, which causes premature flower drop.
